This legume has been known for decades for its high number of minerals and other nutrients.  Concentrates of alfalfa leaves have been the main ingredient of many high quality mineral supplements.  Studies have indicated health benefits of alfalfa include reduction of blood cholesterol, reduction of blood glucose and reduction of plaque in arteries, aiding in the control of cardio-vascular diseases and diabetes. 

Deficiency/Toxicity Symptoms Of Alfalfa:

Nutrients in alfalfa are available from other sources, so there is no "deficiency" information.  Some reports have linked alfalfa tablets and lupus like symptoms, but these are from products made from seeds and sprouts.

Supplements Of Alfalfa:

Many mineral supplements use alfalfa.  It's best to choose a high quality, reputable source that uses only the leaves for supplement concentrates.  You can also find alfalfa teas.  Up to 5-10 grams of dried leaves taken by mouth is considered safe for adults.
