The recommended amount 15 mg is normally obtained from a balanced diet with lots of fresh meats and vegetables. Conditions that may reduce Zinc levels and lead to a need for Zinc supplementation are processed food diet, high Carbohydrate diet, injury, burns, drug treatments, liver or kidney diseases, diabetes, alcoholism, smoking, pregnancy. Aviod multi-mineral supplements that include Iron because it cancels Zinc.
