What Is Aerobic Activity defines the health value of many activities, gives examples of activities that have aerobic value, and lists some of the clothing and equipment required for recreational aerobics.

What Is Aerobic Activity?

Aerobic simply means 'with air'.  When we describe a recreational activity as aerobic, it means you're getting aerobic exercise value from that recreation.  You can visit this page for more on Aerobic Exercise.  Here, we'll focus on aerobic recreational activities.  Aerobic activities burn calories, reduce blood sugar, and are useful for weight loss.  Aerobic activity or exercise is needed to strengthen heart, lungs, immunity, lower blood pressure, maintain good cellular health and help prevent or control major diseases (like diabetes, cancer, atherosclerosis, asthma, emphysema, sciatica, constipation, etc).  Aerobic recreational activity is just as good for you as exercise.  Your body doesn't care if you're having fun...in fact...it's much easier to keep getting exercise you enjoy.  That's why it makes sense to find aerobic recreational activities you like to do.

What Are Some Types Of Aerobic Activity?

Some types of aerobic activity are table tennis, swimming, walking, hiking, jogging, bicycling, cross-country skiing, rowing, kayaking, mowing the lawn, hand washing and waxing the car, dancing, jumping rope, basketball, roller skating, ice skating, mountain biking, skate boarding, snow boarding, air hockey, etc.  Anything that gets your heart rate up for a sustained period of time can count as aerobic activity.  Of course, you're out of shape or overweight, you should start these activities slowly and work up to a full workout over months.

What Equipment Is Required For Aerobic Activity?

The low end of the expenses involved in aerobic activity is probably occupied by walking shoes.  Still, get an expensive name brand of shoe, because the wrong shoe (skate, snow shoe, etc.) can damage your ankles, knees, hips and back.  For a lot of the activities, the only other expenses are for the various balls, hats, clothes, skates, skate boards, etc.  Probably, in the middle range of expenses are bicycles, mountain bikes, canoes and kayaks.  At the expensive end are skis and ski equipment and clothing, snow boards, swimming pools and/or the club fees and lift tickets required to make a regular recreation out of the aerobic activity.  Still, if you really enjoy the recreation and it helps keep you healthy, spending money on the equipment is probably a very good investment in your health.
